About

Founded in 1946 by World War II veterans, the club is made up of men, women and junior members from Litchfield County. We are a grassroot club that has grown over the years and will continue to grow for years to come. We have a roster of 275 members with people leaving and new members joining every year.

The club has a long history of continued support of the second amendment as well as hunting and fishing rights. Over the years, we have strived to be good neighbors by making improvements to our club grounds and by being good stewards of the land.

Each year, our members work together to improve our club. Our meetings were once held at a different location. With the hard work of our members, membership dues and donations, we were able to enclose our pavilion to be able to have our monthly meetings and other functions on club grounds.

In fellow membership with other sportsmen, we are dedicated to the enjoyment and the preservation of fishing, hunting and the shooting sports so that the traditions of the outdoorsman can be passed down from generation to generation. Youth is the future of our club and we feel that it is our duty to preserve our hunting and fishing heritage for them. We have junior memberships for juniors who wish to become members. We provide a safe, fun environment so the young can learn the safe and respectful way to enjoy these sports.

We sponsor turkey and ham shoots, a series of pistol shoots and 3-D archery tournaments. A fishing derby for all the children in the area is held in the spring. One of the oldest annual club outings is held every August at the club property in Canaan, CT. Many of our events are open to the public. Please click on the events page for more club activities and information.

In 2005, Tom Poole (President) established the Brooks Conklin Scholarship which is awarded yearly to a junior member or a child of a member. We were able to award our first scholarship in 2009.

We have access and exclusive use of several miles of brooks in Canaan, Lime Rock and Falls Village. The club purchased 13 acres of land in Canaan in 2007 bringing our total to over 100 acres. These 100 acres are used for hunting and fishing. Through the yearly dues and donations, we stock trout in these rivers twice a year and pheasant on our property for 6 weeks leading up to Thanksgiving. We have a fishing pond for children, a 100 yard rifle range and a pistol range for members.

We offer a friendly, family orientated place for all to enjoy the great outdoors and the activities the club has to offer.
